Position: Full-Time Elementary School Teacher
Reports to: School Director
Employment Status: Salaried, $55,000-65,000 per year
Contract start date: August 1, 2026

L’Étoile French Immersion School is hiring a full-time French teacher (Grades TPS to 5th Grade). L’Étoile is a private school located in the John’s Landing neighborhood of Portland, offering education from preschool through 5th grade in a personalized and multicultural environment. Instruction is primarily delivered in French, with dedicated time blocks for the development of English reading and writing skills. Classes are limited to 20 students, with an average of 15 to 18 per class.

L’Étoile is seeking candidates who are committed to creating a rich and stimulating school environment that encourages every student to reach their full potential.

Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s degree in Education
• CRPE (French national teaching credential)
• At least 3 years of teaching experience in public or private elementary schools
• Fluent French speaker


Responsibilities and Duties
• Identify learning objectives students are expected to meet by the end of the academic year, following French National Education guidelines
• Prepare weekly lesson plans and monthly/yearly progressions aligned with those objectives, using differentiated instructional strategies
• Submit annual progressions before the start of the school year
• Deliver lessons clearly and thoughtfully to ensure full curriculum coverage by year-end
• Integrate class-, school-, or network-wide projects (e.g., Math Rally, library activities) into lesson planning
• Use daily formative assessments and summative evaluations to track student progress
• Apply standardized assessments when appropriate
• Implement alternative teaching strategies for students not meeting expectations and document in a PPRE if needed
• Challenge advanced students with more stimulating activities
• Share student progress with parents during scheduled conferences and clearly communicate development
• Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting classroom with educational displays
• Foster a positive emotional classroom environment that encourages kindness and support
• Follow safety procedures as outlined in the Student/Parent Handbook
• Participate actively in staff meetings with a positive, collaborative attitude
• Take on new collaborative projects with enthusiasm and contribute ideas
• Support colleagues with assistance or coaching when needed
• Cultivate positive relationships with parents and encourage involvement in their child’s learning
• Respond promptly and professionally to parent concerns
• Share classroom updates and projects through newsletters at least eight times a year
• Post classroom photos on the school’s online platform
• Maintain regular communication with parents of students not meeting academic or behavioral expectations
• Uphold a positive, respectful workplace demeanor, showing punctuality and independence
• Use technology independently for communication, file sharing, documentation, and online reporting
• Ensure student computer use in the classroom is relevant to instruction
• Participate in back-to-school planning meetings before the academic year begins
• Evaluate students' academic skills according to French National Education standards and track progress throughout the year
• Meet with parents to review student performance and create personalized support plans when necessary
• Attend professional development days and after-school meetings
• Maintain professionalism and positive relationships with colleagues
• Collaborate willingly on school projects
• Familiarize yourself with and follow the Parent Handbook and school rules
