Position Overview:
BASIS Independent Manhattan is seeking an experienced, passionate, and visionary Varsity Soccer Assistant Coach to lead and elevate one of our competitive athletic programs. The ideal candidate will be committed to building a strong, sustainable team culture grounded in discipline, accountability, skill development, and respect. This coach will take ownership of the program—establishing structure, fostering student-athlete growth, and upholding the values of BASIS Independent Schools.
Key Responsibilities:
• Program Leadership & Culture Building
◦ Develop and implement a clear, positive, and competitive team culture built on discipline, hard work, sportsmanship, and high expectations.
◦ Establish consistent program standards, routines, and expectations for student-athletes.
◦ Build strong relationships with players, families, and school leadership to ensure alignment with the mission of BASIS Independent Schools.
◦ Serve as a role model for integrity, responsibility, and resilience.
• Coaching & Skill Development
◦ Provide high-level instruction in sport-specific technique, fundamentals, and advanced strategy.
◦ Create structured practice plans focused on progression, individual improvement, and team performance.
◦ Analyze student-athlete strengths and areas for growth, providing targeted feedback to support their development.
◦ Foster a competitive environment that encourages continuous improvement and excellence.
• Program Management
◦ Oversee all aspects of the varsity program, including tryouts, roster selection, scheduling, and game preparation.
◦ Maintain accurate equipment inventory and ensure a safe and organized practice environment.
• Student-Athlete Support & Accountability
◦ Promote academic accountability and ensure that student-athletes meet all eligibility and conduct expectations.
◦ Reinforce discipline, punctuality, effort, and team-first values.
◦ Address behavioral or performance issues fairly and consistently.
Qualifications:
• Prior high school, collegiate, or club coaching experience required; varsity-level experience strongly preferred.
• Deep knowledge of sport-specific rules, techniques, and modern coaching methods.
• Demonstrated ability to build or transform a program culture.
• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Preferred Characteristics:
• High-energy, motivating, and student-centered coaching style.
• Ability to mentor athletes both on and off the court/field.
• Consistent and disciplined with excellent time-management skills.
