The Sagemont School is ready to welcome a passionate high school art teacher with extensive knowledge to include drawing and painting, digital art, photography, and ceramic arts and art history.

Job Description

  • Teach knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, digital art, photography, ceramics, and art history
  • Encourage students to develop personal styles and express themselves through the medium of art
  • Organize field trips to museums and art galleries
  • Patience and approachability so that students feel comfortable expressing themselves freely
  • Foster an atmosphere conducive to the intellectual, social and emotional development of pupils
  • Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art
  • Understand a variety of “masters” techniques
  • Knows and can apply elements of design and modern principles of art
  • Knows the fundamentals and different approaches to drawing media technique
  • Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities
  • Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment
  • Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the school and the community
  • Sponsor exhibits outside The Sagemont School
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and/or in self-selected professional growth activities
  • Participate in curriculum and other programming, such as after school art club
  • Ability to support new learners to the discipline and Advanced Placement art students

Teacher Requirements

Bachelor's degree or higher required

Portfolio of individual and student work

A strong work ethic, and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion at all times

Excellence in communication (verbal and written; formal and informal)
