BASIS Independent Brooklyn Upper is seeking qualified candidates for an International Student Program/ESL Support Coordinator!

What We're Looking For:

As International Student Program Coordinator/ESL Support, your first responsibility will be to support our international students in Grades 6 -12 with English as a Second Language acquisition. You will also partner with members Student Affairs team to support the experience and academic growth of international students. The role serves as a liaison between the BIB community and International families and helps to establish strong, mutually respectful relationships between students, teachers, and families. This position is a visible presence in the Middle School and High School and is responsible for all issues relating to the well-being of the international students at school.


  • Reviews and assesses international students' English language aptitude.
  • Cooperates with teachers to evaluate student participation and comprehension of material in class in order to identify gaps in English Language skills.
  • Designs, plans, and teaches English Language Acquisition courses to meet students' needs.
  • Organizes and reviews results of various international student assessments.
  • Supports teachers and school leaders in communication with international students and their families.
  • Serves as International Student Officer to ensure compliance of all international student paperwork and meeting of deadlines.
  • In coordination with other team members:
  • Organizes and executes student academic and behavior support for international students.
  • Coordinates the planning and preparation for new international student orientation.
  • Communicates and meets with parents regarding international student performance and/or conduct.
  • Participates in the development of academic and student schedules for International Students.
  • Coordinates student academic support interventions.
  • Participate in all faculty and staff meetings
  • Assists with admissions events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Experience:

Education & Credentials:

  • Bachelor's degree is required, a Master's degree is preferred.
  • 3-5 years' experience in education preferred.
  • Experience teaching English as a Second Language preferred.
  • Fluency in Mandarin required.

Work Environment and Additional Requirements:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. International Student Program Coordinator may be required to work more than 40 hours a week, including some nights and weekends.
