The Dean of Curriculum position is a remote position and reports to the Director of Teaching and Learning. The Dean leads the Curriculum Team in designing, developing, and implementing curriculum and related academic programming. The Dean must be a creative, student-centered thought leader in the field of education with a commitment to outside-the-box teaching and learning practices and must be informed and knowledgeable about the K-12 education technology market. This position requires exceptional leadership and communication skills, a deep commitment to student-centered learning, a solid background in curriculum design and production, a positive can-do spirit, and the ability to collaborate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders. The Dean of Curriculum role is a virtual full-time position, but may spend up to 25% of the calendar year traveling to attend in-person meetings, conferences, and events.
JOB DUTIES: Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Managing the planning, development, and implementation of the Laurel Springs K-12 academic experience, including a roadmap for proprietary curriculum.
- Supervising, onboarding, training, evaluating, and coaching a team of curriculum and instructional design experts.
- Collaborating closely with the Dean of Lower School, Dean of Upper School, Academic Department Chairs (ADCs) and other department and program leaders to best serve the interests of all students at Laurel Springs.
- Assisting in providing professional development opportunities for teachers.
- Managing vendor relationships.
- Managing internal and external vendor ticketing systems.
- Supporting the admissions, marketing, fulfillment, student services, technology, and education teams by providing relevant, timely information about curriculum research and design in relation to new and existing offerings.
- Researching content-specific instruction, instructional design principles, educational technology/multimedia design, and best practices in online teaching and learning.
- Collecting and analyzing student and system data, interpreting results, and communicating findings to support appropriate instructional practices and student learning.
- Collaborating with staff, guardians, students, and the larger community.
- Promoting a positive school culture focused on the unique needs and educational environment of online/distance students.
- Implementing school-wide academic initiatives, goals, projects, and policies.
- Supporting the strategic plan for LSS education and curriculum.
- Participating in accreditation processes.
- Working closely with the Director of Teaching & Learning to gather and present department data and information to the Spring Education Team and others interested in LSS educational programs when requested.
- Representing LSS at educational conferences and associations as requested.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:- Advanced degree in education or relevant field preferred.
- Demonstrated education leadership and management experience, with excellent interpersonal communication, presentation, and conflict management skills.
- Demonstrated experience and success in online instructional design, content design, and assessment design.
- Project management experience.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate people, instill accountability, and achieve results.
- Excellent skills with productivity and educational technology systems; expertise with G-Suite, Learning Management Systems, and Student Information Systems, is strongly preferred.
