We are seeking an Athletic Director who is interested in driving the development of an exemplary PE/Athletics/Wellness program in our middle and high school while contributing to the development of all aspects of the entire curriculum and program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the hiring, training, and day-to-day performance of all Athletic coaches.
    • Maintain and update the Athletic Department policies and procedures
    • Manage the requisition process, interviews, background checks, and onboarding of all coaches
    • Assist school leadership in the hiring of P.E. teachers
    • Supervise and evaluate the performance of all coaches
    • Meet regularly and establish and execute a program of professional development for coaches
  • Organize and administer the program of interscholastic athletics, including but not limited to all school athletic personnel, events, competitions, policies, procedures, and facilities
    • Work with Head of Operations to maintain campus athletic facilities
    • Act as host to officials and visiting schools
    • Oversee supervision of school employees and volunteers who work the events
    • Manage all sports registrations
    • Manage sport awards and banquets
    • Arrange for personnel to supervise as needed and in conjunction with the Dean of Students and Extended Day Supervisor
    • Plan, organize and coordinate staffing at all Stratford Prep tournaments
    • Place and promote an appropriate emphasis on good sportsmanship, academic excellence, positive attitudes, and character
    • Supervise all athletic facilities on campus, and those rented
    • Manage transportation for all events and serve as on-call contact for after-hours support
    • Work with the Head of Operations for any athletic facility needs and maintenance
    • Coordinate with the Head of Operations on the approved use of the gym and athletic facilities by outside organizations and invoice accordingly
  • Serve as primary liaison to school, system, state, regional, and local athletics and officials' organizations
    • Ensure compliance with SEG, CIF, and NFHS guidelines
    • Ensure prompt submission of reports, forms, and fees due to CIF, etc
    • Responsible for adherence to league, section, state, and school requirements of eligibility for participation
    • Represent Stratford Prep at local, regional, and statewide meetings
    • Maintain the contractual relationship between the school and officials' associations
    • Schedule and compensate all coaches, officials, and game management personnel on time
  • Serve as commissioner to the SEG Middle School Athletics League (MSAL)
  • Lead MSAL and direct and facilitate all MSAL meetings
  • Organize and maintain communications with the MSAL Athletic Directors
  • Coordinate game and tournament schedules with MSAL Athletic Directors
  • Maintain up-to-date records of all athletic contests and specific performance results
  • Manage the athletic department budget
    • Collaborate with school leadership regarding financial income and expenses
  • Inform and enforce athletic policies and procedures and code of conduct with student-athletes and their parents
    • Host player/parent/coach meetings at the beginning of each season
    • Work with the dean of students and principals to current the student-athlete section of the school Guidebook
    • Ensure athletic eligibility for all student-athletes
      • Maintain eligibility records
      • Collect athlete physicals
      • Coordinate concussion baseline test where applicable
      • Stay current regarding CIF, CCS, and other required eligibility rules
  • Coordinate the communication of all pertinent information to coaching personnel, school leadership, faculty, staff, athletes, students, parents and the local community
    • Plan and publicize athletic schedule, both competitions and practices
    • Keep faculty and staff informed of early dismissals and competitions and write weekly updates for the parent and staff newsletters
    • Provide daily announcements to the school regarding athletic events and competitions
    • Collaborate with the marketing and communications manager for all social media postings
  • Serve as a member of the school leadership team
    • Support the school's daily operations
    • Represent Athletics at all marketing and enrollment events
    • Support the Director of Summer and Enrichment in the development of Summer Camps and facility use
  • Other duties as assigned by school leadership

Qualifications:

Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Five-plus years of teaching and/or coaching experience
  • Understanding of interscholastic athletics
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong leadership and collaboration, displaying a positive attitude, and demonstrating cultural proficiency
  • Physically capable of moving sports and facility equipment
  • Local, limited daily travel as well as weekend and evening travel expected

Preferred:
  • Leadership experience
  • Teaching and/or coaching experience in high school
  • Experience in college athletic recruitment
  • Master's degree in athletic-related field

General information:
  • Reports directly to the Head of School
  • This position is regular, 12 months, full-time, and exempt. Employees in exempt positions are expected to work as many hours as their responsibilities require, which includes evenings and weekends
  • The location of the school is 3800 Blackford Ave., San Jose, CA.
