In this teaching position, you use your passion for your subject to inspire andteach higher-level content than what is typical of secondary students. You workcollaboratively with other teachers to create a learning culture in whichdiverse perspectives are challenged and tested in an environment of informedthought and collegiality.
As an Honors Chemistry teacher, you will present the material preparing ourstudents for higher education and beyond, in a way that will best enhancestudent understanding and build upon the Grade 6 through 9 NGSS-orientedscience learning. You will collaborate with other teachers to connect the chemistrycurriculum intentionally and systematically with students' learning in subjectsas diverse as mathematics and social studies. The foundational science coursesin biology, chemistry and physics intentionally comprise substantial modernapplication-oriented learning in biotech, nanotech and cleantech, respectively,to not only connect classroom learning to cutting-edge real-world applicationsbut also to illuminate, enhance and transform traditional content. Advancedlabs in each subject give students hands-on experience and opportunities to putconcepts, principles and procedures into practice. Our science teachers arepassionate, engaging and innovative, and our students are eager to learn andgrow.
Primary Responsibilities:• Teach an Honors Chemistry curriculum, including units on Nanotechnology, and, as a whole, comprising in-class theoretical learning, projects, and laboratory work.
• Establish, maintain and develop the Chemistry and Nanotechnology Lab.
• Develop the AP chemistry curriculum and teach AP Chemistry in the following (2024-25) academic year.
• Collaborate with other teachers and staff members to form a community of smart, talented, and creative people who are passionate and willing to work in a professional and academic environment.
• Construct learning experiences and assessments that challenge students, support the diversity of learners in each classroom, and demonstrate a strong commitment to thedevelopment of complex knowledge and advanced skills.
• Teach higher-level content than grade standards in creative and interactive ways that display your passion for the subject and educate students at an internationally competitivelevel.
• Mentor students to foster academic achievement, personal responsibility, and individuality in all students.
• Keep parents informed about the learning of their children and be proactive in communication with parents.
Qualifications:Our ideal candidate is an experienced professional with the following qualities:
• A bachelor's degree (master's or PhD preferred) in Chemistry or a closely related field.
• At least 2+ years of teaching and training experience at the high school or college level.
• Experience setting up and teaching Chemistry Laboratory work, including in Nanotechnology.
• Ability to absorb, synthesize and present ideas, texts, and concepts with precision and confidence from diverse disciplines.
• Eagerness to build supportive relationships with students in and beyond the classroom.
• Willingness to work actively and collaboratively with colleagues on curriculum development and alignment.
• Willingness to try innovative teaching strategies and formats. Ability to implement differentiated learning/instruction as required.
• Commitment to continuous professional growth and an enthusiasm for lifelong learning.
• Ability to create and promote an inclusive learning environment.
